Leaders Don't Take on Water

By Dean Gage

Leaders Don’t Take on Water: Isaiah 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”  I have just about stopped looking at Facebook since it is so full of error, untruths and personal agendas.  However, I noticed a shared quote on Facebook last week that needs to be a reminder for every man.  Here it is: “Ships don’t sink because of the water around them.  Ships sink because of the water that gets inside them.  Don’t let what is happening around you get inside you and sink you.”  I remember watching the long movie, Titanic, and kept wondering if the ship was ever going to sink.  As we all know, it finally sank taking with it many lives as it took on more water from the cold ocean and hole in its body from the icebergs surrounding it.  Men face the great threat today of having holes in their lives which allow the sins of the world around them to come inside and sink them in a similar way.

Men, don’t take on the water and icebergs of this world around you or you will sink your life and even your family.  As our Scripture promises, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”  We must all pass through the water of life surrounding us but we have a God who loves us and will be with us to avoid letting it get inside of us.  When you see an iceberg, navigate around it and avoid it ripping a hole in your life.  I Thessalonians 5:22 “Abstain from every form of evil.”  This is how we can keep the water out and be obedient to His promise that He will be with us.  The Titanic was said to be “the ship that even God couldn’t sink” but look at what happened.  It did not sink immediately but only with time as more water got inside.  The same is true of us if we allow the world to start getting inside us.  We are as vulnerable as the Titanic and must be careful to not let the culture around us get inside us.  Let me end it this way, “Our lives don’t sink because of the world around us.  Our lives sink because of the world that gets inside us.”  If you begin to see a hole in your armor and start to take on water, remember our promise from God, “I will be with you.”  Jesus can repair anything and anyone.
