Your Leadership Just Became More Critical

By Dean Gage

I Timothy 4:1-2 “The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.” The ruling by the Supreme Court last week requiring all states to perform same sex marriages just raised the stakes and critical importance for men to lead their families and ground their children in the truth of God’s Word. This unbelievable action may never be reversed in our nation and culture.

So, what are we to do? We cannot bury our heads in the sand and give up. We must make a new commitment to realize that our spiritual leadership in our homes and families has never been more crucial. It is a responsibility that a man cannot take lightly and the future of his family depends on it. The Supreme Court had no business or authority to redefine marriage which man never ordained or defined in the first place. In Genesis 2, God ordained marriage as the first institution and defined it as the union of only a man and a woman. God did this before there was ever any thought or form of government. God’s decisions are not subject to revision by anyone.

This decision is just another example of our culture of defining deviancy downward. O. S. Hawkins recently said, “We have today what we tolerated yesterday and will have tomorrow what we tolerate today.” Billy Graham also made a relevant statement, “Our society strives to avoid any possibility of offending anyone – except God.” There is no question but that this decision offended God. The Supreme Court is not Supreme. One day those justices will stand before the Supreme Judge and give an account for their decision. But, let’s make it personal. One day we will stand before that same Judge to give an account for our decisions and spiritual leadership of those whom God has trusted us to lead and disciple.

We must be confident and bold to make a new commitment to lead our families, children and grandchildren in the truth. Make this a priority and spend the time necessary to make it happen. Jesus is their only hope to live in our decaying culture and for them to spend eternity with us in heaven. Be encouraged and lead for we know who wins in the end.
