WALK WITH WISE MEN

By Dean Gage

Proverbs 13:20 “He who walks with wise men will be wise; But the companion of fools will suffer harm”  One of the best nuggets of practical and every day truth and advice that I can give men today is to watch their own friendships and work relationships.  Find good friends and mentors who will guide and help grow your spiritual walk and maturity.  Spiritual leadership and maturity come from knowing what God is saying and then doing it.  When we surround ourselves with wise and mature Christians, we too will become wise.

I Corinthians 15: 33 “Bad company corrupts good morals.”  Many parents properly watch the friendships of their children and well they should.  However, they must also watch their own friendships and the things they do and places they go with them.  Men, your children will be looking at your example to see if you live it out.  We are warned to walk with wise men for good reason.  Bad company and fools will lead to harm in ways that cannot be predicted in advance.  One great question to ask yourself, “Do they have the same passion for Jesus and spiritual walk that I have?”  If not, then keep them only as an acquaintance and not someone with whom you walk closely.

Your best friends should be those at church who are wise and walk with Jesus.  Also, find a wise mentor who has lived longer than you and who has gained experience of what it means to spiritually lead a family.  “A mentor is someone whose hindsight can become your foresight.”  A man should find a good mentor and learn from him over a sustained period of time.  Wisdom is seeing life from God’s point of view and should one of our goals in the Christian life.
