Our third look at vision brings us to a personal issue. “The purpose of life is to live a life of purpose.” In his landmark book, The Purpose Drive Life, Rick Warren starts with a most profound statement,

“It’s not about you; it all starts with God. If you want to know why you were placed on this earth, you must begin with God. You were born by his purpose and for his purpose. The search for purpose of life typically begins at the wrong starting point – ourselves. But focusing on ourselves and self-centered questions will never reveal our life’s purpose and calling. You didn’t create yourself, so there is no way can tell yourself what you were created for. To understand a new invention, you must go to the creator owner’s manual of the invention. So, we must begin with our Creator, God, and the owner’s manual, the Bible. It is only in God that we discover our origin, our identity, our meaning, our purpose, our significance and our destiny.”

A man’s vision and purpose in life must be to become what God created him to be. All other paths lead to a dead end. Fortunately, God did not leave us our purpose in life to speculation, and He gives us His revelation in the Bible. It is our owner’s manual to explain why we are alive, how life works, what to avoid and what to expect in the future and even in the end. All of this is why a man must first be able to lead his own life before he is capable to lead his family, at work, at church or in the community. It seems that some men never find their purpose and calling and lack the leadership to have a spiritual impact which is a real purpose for which each of us has been born.
