The Leader of Your Family

By Dean Gage

This week, I want to return to the basic issue of what a man’s spiritual leadership should be in every area of his life and particularly his family. So many men today did not grow up in a home with a strong spiritual or courageous leader. They did not have a Godly father who loved them, bonded with them, encouraged them, modeled Christ, led them spiritually and shared life on a daily basis. They had no example to follow. They may have had a father in residence but absent in being a father. Unfortunately in our world today, so many homes have been separated by divorce and dysfunction. But, the bottom line is like C. S. Lewis stated, “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can change where you are and change the ending.” Some men do not believe that they are a leader and cannot become a leader. This is another lie of the enemy to keep men from leading their families.

Every Christian man is called to be a leader at some level and must follow Jesus. I really believe that spiritual leadership is following and building the character of Christ into our lives. This is the leadership responsibility for a man to build into the lives of his wife and children and is done through three ways: 1) the Word of God, 2) prayer and 3) living the Christian life in their presence. This is how we change the ending for our lives and those whom God has given us to lead. Where are you today as a spiritual leader? If I were to come to your home and ask your family to name three leaders whom they feel has impacted their lives, would your name be on the list? If not, you can still make the change and impact the ending.

Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And, let us run with endurance the race marked out for us.”
