Colossians 1: 18 “And He is the head of the body, the church. He is the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent.”   The word “preeminent” is crucial to our lives and leadership in our Christian life and leadership.  Preeminent means to be above and before others; superior and surpassing.  If you think about it, it means before first.  Paul tells us in our verse today that the spiritual leader is to put Christ preeminent in everything.  It means that the totality of our lives (everything – not just some things) must revolve around Christ Himself.  All our decisions, life and leadership must be driven by this obedient priority and relationship to God’s only Son.

All of God’s creation and the physical world of the earth on which we live revolve around the one sun, supplying us with warmth, light and life.  The earth rotates around its axis resulting in the twenty-four hour phenomenon of day and night.  Our lives rotate around earth’s axis as we live each day and night.  But, the earth revolves (not rotates) around the one and only sun over a period of one year producing the seasons of the year.  Both of these two phenomena are enormously important to life itself and are confirmation that God’s intelligent design is preeminent to man’s false theory of evolution.  Look at this phenomenon in a spiritual light and we see that all God does speak of our relationship to His Son.  He makes Himself known to all mankind through His creation.  We could not live on the earth without the sun.  Just as the rotating earth has 365 days and nights as it revolves around the sun, the daily rotation of our lives revolves around God’s only Son.  That is not even a question.  The question is whether or not we place preeminence on the revolution of our lives around God’s only Son.  There is no other source of warmth and light other than the sun by which we can live on earth.  God’s design is precise to our lives just like the twenty-four hour days and 365 days in a year are precise in His creation.  Is the Son preeminent in everything in your life as you live each day?
