James 4: 13-14 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Comedian Larry the Cable Guy made famous the phrase “Git-R-Done” several years ago. It became a working principle or mantra for people and leaders committed on accomplishing a task, assignment or project. It communicated that the person was sensitive to a responsibility and ready to make things happen. Does this mantra describe you or do you procrastinate and put off things that should be done? Leadership is an active, not a passive process. The easy way to mishandle any issue or action needed is to avoid facing up to it. One of these day is none of these days for many things we face in life. We have no guarantee that we will live to see tomorrow, so we must “Git-R-Done” today or it may never get done.
Your family and your workers look to see if you are responsible to complete what is assigned to you. They expect you to set the example of getting things done. If something is your job to do, then do it in a timely manner. Be a man of action and completion. If someone asks or assigns you to do something, they are expecting you to answer or do it. In my leadership roles over the years, I would much rather have an answer of “no,” rather than “no answer at all.” Leadership is more of a responsibility than it is a position. My father was the hardest working man I have every known and he led us to “Git-R-Done” by his example of giving his word and getting whatever the task done. In daily life, your Christian witness is linked to your integrity, character, responsibility and active leadership to “Git-R-Done.” If there are things that you need to do with any member of your family, do not put it off because you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. Today, “Git-R-Done.”
