Luke 5: 4- 5 And when He had finished speaking, Jesus said to Simon, "Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.? And Simon answered, "Master, we toiled all night and took nothing? But at your word I will let down the nets." Simon Peter and the other disciples had fished all night without catching a fish. Jesus knew this and wanted to show them what would happen in their lives if they obeyed what he told them to do. I am sure that they were reluctant to get back in the boat after washing their nets clean and try again. But, their obedience to what Jesus told them to do resulted in catching so many fish that their nets started to break. When they did what Jesus told them to do, they experienced his power, blessings and provision.
It is no different for us. We must listen and do what Jesus tells us to do through his Word and the Holy Spirit. I am sure that every father has told his children to do something that they questioned. He has probably said in response to their lack of obedience, "Because I told you to do it." This was not Simon's response to Jesus. He immediately did what Jesus had told him to do and was overwhelmed by the outcome. This applies to each of us as leaders to do what Jesus tells us to do and we will be overwhelmed with the results and outcome. He already knows the outcome or He would not have told us to do it in the first place. There is no substitute for obedience.
