Luke 12: 12 “And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and authorities, do not become anxious about how or what you should speak in your defense, or what you should say; for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say .” This is a spiritual principle and promise from God’s Word that I have claimed so many times in my life when making leadership decisions and having to interact, speak to or confront another person. I always claim these verses before any speaking engagement whether in church or the secular world. This included my many times before all types of groups when I was a university president. I claimed these verses before job interviews and dealing with difficult people in the workplace and God was always faithful. Our Father likes to hear us pray His Word and promises back to Him as it shows our humility and dependence on Him as we live and lead our lives.
I would urge any father to claim these verses for handling issues with members of his family, including his own children. In one sense, it is asking God’s spirit to reveal wisdom and sound judgment to us. It gives us confidence to make courageous decisions when the need arises to face an issue with someone. It also keeps us in the Spirit to protect our own witness and Christian walk. It helps control anxiousness, fear and anger which could arise. God’s promises are available to us for every issue in life. We just have to claim them in advance and ask Him to walk with us. It is much like one of your children asking you for guidance and help with something or someone they are facing. You feel delighted, honored, loved and respected to be asked. Our Heavenly Father feels the same way and has so much more to offer than we do. Claim these two verses and I promise they will make a difference in your leadership for the rest of your lives.
