Responsibility Part 3

By Dean Gage

This week, we take our third look at the character trait of Responsibility or Accountability. We live in a culture today where man makes excuses, blames others or circumstances, calls sin something else and hides from what is actually sin. Examples of how our culture tries to water down sin and use less offensive or politically correct terminology include: adultery is called an affair, homosexuality is called an alternate life style or sexual orientation, living together outside of marriage is called co-habitation, a homosexual or lesbian partner is called a significant other, murder of an unborn baby is called pro-choice and pornography is called an art form or freedom of expression. Alcohol advertisements today are contradictory when they show people having a great time and party and then make the statement in small print, “Please drink responsibly.”

But the truth is that God has not and never will lower His standards and He is not fooled by man’s continued attempts to cover up sin. Malachi 3:6 “For I, the Lord, do not change.” Why doesn’t He change? He does not change because He is holy, righteous and perfect. Sin is still sin for which man and a spiritual leader will be held accountable and responsible. Just remember this: “Be sure your sins will find you out.” Light always exposes darkness.
