NO EXPIRATION DATE

By Dean Gage

NO EXPIRATION DATE:  Matthew 28:20: “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”   Periodically, my wife and I go through the refrigerator, freezer and the pantry to look at expiration dates of food products.  We are often shocked and sometimes embarrassed to see how far past the expiration dates some of these have become.  We do the same evaluation of medications, ointments and prescriptions and know that they become ineffective or less effective after the expiration dates.  We often check the expiration dates on batteries to see how long they will last.  Our insurance policies have renewal and expiration dates that we must keep careful watch.  We live with the fact that things of this world always have expiration dates.  Uncertainty and problems arise when we do not observe expiration dates.

For Christians, we have a Savior who does not have an expiration date as promised in our Scripture this week.  Jesus said very clearly, “I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  This promise should give us absolute assurance that whatever we face, He is always there and will never leave us.  We sometimes live during trials as if He has an expiration date and it has passed us.  We will never be alone and just when we feel weak, weary and tired, He is there to refresh us far beyond our expiration date.  When you need fresh nourishment, a healing hand, a battery charge or an insurance claim, He is there.  The issue is for us to remember, claim and trust His promise.  He has NO EXPIRATION DATE because He will never expire and is eternal.
