LIFE IS NOT COMPARTMENTALIZED:

By Dean Gage

Colossians 3: 17 “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.”  We have previously looked at the five areas of life that a Christian man walks and leads every day:  personal, family, work, church and community and in that priority.  We must never look at one area alone and think that we have a different walk or responsibility in one, but not another.  All of life is integrated and we do not live any one of these areas as an island unto itself.  Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and goes with us wherever we go.  Our Christian leadership in these areas of life is lived out in our words and deeds – what we say and what we do.  It’s like getting up in the morning and putting on a uniform with a name plate on the front with the name of Jesus.  As a Christian, our words and deeds have the name of Jesus in front of them for everyone to see.

The foundational Christian principle for us is that we must never live as if we can be a Christian in one area and do as we please in another.  When President Bill Clinton faced the Monica Lewinsky scandal, many people in our culture stated that they didn’t care what he did in his personal life and compartmentalized it.  His personal life and family life impacts his political or work life.  What we do in one area impacts what we do in all the other areas. Your family knows what you are doing at work and people at work know how you lead your family.  The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and forever.  When we claim to be a Christian, we must be the same yesterday, today and forever wherever we go, whatever we say and whatever we do.  It is His name that we walk through life.  Your family, people at work or church or in the community are looking to see if you are who you say you are.  Do not let them down, but most of all, do not let your Savior down.
