Leading by Example: Part 4

By Dean Gage

I Timothy 4:12 “Let no one look down on you because you are young, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity show yourself an example of those who believe. This week, we continue with the same text and instruction that Paul gave Timothy to strengthen his spiritual leadership and example of a life in which Christ lived. We look at our conduct this week which is the second of five areas of life Paul mentioned. Conduct is our daily living, walk and behavior to model and be an example of Christ in every area of our lives. It comes from the root word of citizenship and as Christians; our citizenship is in heaven and not of this world.

A Christian or biblical message with an ungodly lifestyle is blatant hypocrisy and false spiritual leadership and a life others should not follow. We all received a grade or evaluation in conduct or citizenship on our school report cards and my parents looked at this grade as closely as they did my grade in math or science. How does your report card look in conduct for spiritual leadership and example of Christ?

Paul further explained this Christian principle in Philippians 1:27 “Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.” He may have explained this best in Colossians 3:17 “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.” God’s Word is more than just doctrine and is very specific to instruct us how to live and lead. If we do everything in the name of Jesus, then our lives will be worthy of the gospel of Christ and those whom God has given us to lead will see Him in us. It is like wearing the logo of Christ as we wear a Polo logo. People will notice and be impacted by the example and banner we wear in life.
