LEADERS WATCH YOUR CONDUCT

By Dean Gage

Proverbs 20:11: “It is by his deeds that a lad distinguishes himself if his conduct is pure and right.”  Can people determine what you believe and who you are by observing how you live?  This is a question that we should all answer at the end of each day.  It should be our prayer to start each day, “Lord, help me to live this day in such a way that others see Jesus in me.”  When I went to school, our report cards always had list of personal grades other than just the academic disciplines.  One of these was CONDUCT or deportment.  My parents always looked at this grade first since it actually was listed before the academic subject grades.  I knew that they would see this grade and it keep me sensitive to my conduct at school as I did not want to disappoint my father and mother.  When we want to please our father (and mother), our conduct will reflect the right way to live.  Is it not more important for us to conduct ourselves in a manner to please our Heavenly Father?  We know how to do it, but how often do we even think about it or how important it is?

I once heard the statement, “If you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?”  As we lead our lives, there should be no question that our words, deeds and conduct are pure and right according to God’s Word.  This is how we should distinguish ourselves as a Christian in the world in which we live and lead.  This does not seem the way so many people today distinguish themselves.  People who commit crimes and evil acts distinguish themselves in a negative manner and are known by deeds that are not pure and right.  It is still their conduct that distinguishes them.  A Christian leader’s conduct should distinguish himself in the image of Christ and be exemplary in every segment and every word or deed.  The people and family you lead are looking. “ What do they see?”
