LEADERS WATCH FOR WARNING LIGHTS

By Dean Gage

I Corinthians 10: 12: “Therefore, let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.” Cars and trucks of today have warning lights of all kinds to warn us that something about the vehicle is not right and there may be significant danger ahead. These lights warn us that we are about to run out of gas, that our tires are low, that our battery is weak, that our oil pressure is too low or needs changing, that a door is not properly shut and that we are about to back into something. There are many more warning lights on modern cars to avoid us running or backing into something of danger. These are only a few examples of warning lights and sounds of an impending danger. What do we do when a warning light comes on? We stop, evaluate, go to an expert and take corrective action before great or fatal danger occurs. If we continue to run our car’s motor when the oil light comes on, we may totally ruin the motor and the future of the car itself. We must not ignore it by thinking it will go away, but must take heed or lest it will fail. I don’t know about you, but I am not ready to get into a driverless car on the roads we travel.

How does this apply to us? By now, I hope you get the grasp and analogy of the warning signals and lights that God sets before us. If we ignore them, we run the risk of personal and family damage and failure. I suspect that every father has warned his wife and children to stop the car when the oil light comes on and call him or a mechanic. This is how we should live driving the roads of our lives. When God sends us warnings and He will, we should stop, take inventory and go to Him before there is more danger or damage. If not, the damage might become more pronounced and even impact those who are riding with you in life. We must never think that we can stand alone and must take action when the warning signs of sin light up our dashboard/mind and heart. We have to stay alert and know that small lights ignored can cause greater damage to other parts of life. Charles H. Spurgeon said this, “Christian, beware how you think lightly of sin. Take heed lest you fall little by little.”
