I John 2:6: “The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.” I have just returned from ten days in the Holy Land of Israel and Jerusalem and had the experience of walking many of the same paths where Jesus walked. The personal spiritual impact will follow me the rest of my life. As I walked down the same road of Jesus’ triumphal entry from the Mount of Olives into Jerusalem and the Garden of Gethsemane where He prayed with his disciples, I could picture his obedience to the Father’s leading. It was in this location that He was arrested and led to his trial and condemnation of death on the cross. We followed the same path He took to the House of Caiaphas, the high priest, and from there down the steps and path to face Pilate near the Temple area. We later walked through the Damascus Gate out of the Temple area to where He was crucified at Golgotha and then to the Garden Tomb burial place of Jesus. We actually walked into the Garden Tomb and had the powerful experience of seeing the place where he was placed and where He arose.
I would venture to say that all of us returned home with a renewed commitment to live our lives and walk in a manner worthy of what Jesus did for us. We will never have to walk the same paths that He walked, nor could we. But, we should love Him so much for what He did for us that we should walk as close as we can. His steps show us the way and we must always remember His sacrifice of love to forgive us of our sins and give us His righteousness. It is the only way.
