II Timothy 1: 7 “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but of power, love and sound judgment (discipline, self-control, common sense).”   I do not believe that any of you would dispute the fact that our country and people have lost common sense.  When we look at our government’s continued backstabbing and stalemate, our decline of social and moral values, our priorities of what is important, the acceptance and promotion of alternate life styles and the breakdown of the biblical family; it becomes apparent that we have lost our common sense and spiritual compass.  The enemy is winning.  How do we reverse what is happening?  The only answer is Jesus Christ beginning in the homes and families where a man’s spiritual leadership must be top priority and continuous.  Even if we cannot change the nation, we can lead our families to a different destination which is eternal.

Our Scripture today is a promise from God for us to be bold, not timid, and to realize the power, love and sound judgment we have in Christ.  We can overcome whatever the culture throws at us by using common sense and sound judgment consistent with God’s Word.  It really means that regardless of what others around us or our family might do, we must lead with good judgment to do what is right in God’s eyes.  We cannot be timid in making decisions and must have the personal strength and courage to be decisive and actively engaged in the daily life of our family.  Simply put, we must never do something dumb or makes no sense.  The stakes are high but the eternal impact is even higher.  Lead and love by doing what is eternally right and important.
