LEADERS TRUST THE LORD

By Dean Gage

Psalm 118:8 “It is better to trust in the Lord, than to trust in man.”  Our verse today is actually the middle verse in the whole Bible.  I do not believe it is located here by accident. God located it in the heart of Scripture so that we understand that what came before it and all that comes after it are in His control, and not man’s.  Men often have to make leadership decisions in his personal life, his family and his work that require trusting counsel, experience and conversations with others.  Some decisions are much larger than others and require more time and study.  Some impact only us and others may impact many people.  The real issue is for us to trust and be trusted by those we lead.  Do they know that you lead by trusting God more than man?

Joshua told us something that can make this spiritual principle real to our families.  He wrote that others could do what they want, but that “he and his house would serve the Lord.”  When this becomes the environment for a family, there will be no doubt that leadership decisions will be made by trusting the Lord.  Children and grandchildren will know that you have consulted and trusted the Lord in what you do.  This does not mean that we are to not consult with man.  It does mean that in major decisions, God is the one we trust for the final decision.  Man can make mistakes, but the Lord never makes a mistake.  It is our responsibility to know Him and His Word so personally that the final call is evident.
