I Peter 5:8 “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” The enemy is always prowling around us and seeking to devour a man’s spiritual leadership in every area of his life. His goal is take you down personally and in your leadership of family, work, church and community. He is always on the alert and we must constantly be on the alert to not let him become a devouring lion in our lives.
The devil is always in the film room and views your game films looking for weaknesses. He is like an opposing coach looking to see where he can attack us on offense, defense and the kicking game. He knows our tendencies and the areas where he can most effectively attack. Texas A&M lost to Alabama in football last week. We knew that the enemy was very strong, well coached and had a history of winning tough battles. I am sure that our coaches knew that the enemy was studying our game films day and night trying to find ways to attack our weaknesses. However, there is no way that A&M could have foreseen or prepared to have three interceptions run back for touchdowns. The enemy was like a roaring lion that took advantage of a weakness that happened during the game and turned it into a victory for the other side. The devil is the master opportunist.
What does all this mean to you as a spiritual leader? It simply means that you must be of sober spirit and always on the alert of the devil’s attack. Our quarterbacks threw interceptions that devoured the whole team. This is exactly what the enemy wants to do to your leadership and you are the quarterback for your family. If he can get you to make a mistake, he can more easily devour those whom you lead. Keep your life and leadership clean without interceptions and be on the alert for those who want to intercept your godly impact and leadership. Stay alert every day and let God be your coach on both offense and defense.
