Romans 8:16 “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”   If someone asked you how you know for certain and without any doubt that you are a child of God or a Christian, how would you answer?  You could answer and rightly so that it is because you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior based on the Word of God.  However, it is even more than that truth.  It is because the Holy Spirit lives in you and bears witness with your spirit.  I know because I know in my spirit and my heart.

A little boy was flying his kite one day when the wind was brisk and large fluffy clouds were blowing across the sky.  The kite went up and up until it was hidden in the clouds.  A man passing by asked the boy, “What are you doing?”  He replied, “I am flying a kite.”  The man asked him, “How can you be sure?  You can’t see the kite?”  The little boy answered, “No, I can’t see the kite, but every few seconds I feel a tug on the string that let’s me know it’s still up there.”  When Christ lives in us and His Holy Spirit tugs with our spirit, we know for certain.  This tug goes even beyond our salvation.  It leads us in all our decisions and gives us certainty of how we are to live and lead.  Like the kite in the clouds, we cannot see the Holy Spirit but we know for certain He is there when He speaks to us.  Our responsibility is to keep our hands on the string to feel His tug and confirmation that He is always there, even when clouds may seem to hide him from our view.  He promised, “I will never leave you or forsake you even to the end of the world.”
