LEADERS KEEP ON GROWING

By Dean Gage

II Timothy 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the Word of Truth.”  I have heard the statement, “Everything alive is still growing.”  It is a principle of nature, physical life and spiritual life – leadership.  Look around you and observe.  The grass and trees in my yard are still growing and need to have food, water and culturing.  They are green, growing and productive as long as they are alive. Their root systems keep growing in the winter to allow them to really come alive in the spring.  Our bodies reflect this God-created fact of life itself.  Our skin is the largest organ of the body and is in constant growth and replacement to encase the whole body and to protect us from our environment.  Just don’t stretch it too much by obesity – ha!  Our hair, nails and blood all continue to grow, as well as other physical parts of our body as long as we are alive.  What about our brain?  It does not grow in the number of cells which count in the billions.  We just wish it did.   It is not like the skin or new blood cells.  However, it does have the capacity to make adjustments for lost cells to some degree, but its ability to grow is measured in terms of mental function, not new cells.  This growth is dependent on what we personally feed into it by what we hear, see, read or do.

A Christian must live by this principle of feeding God’s Word into their brain and heart to keep them alive and growing.  This is how our spiritual life stays alive and we are to grow as a Christian man and leader.  If not, we are walking toward a life and impact that are no longer alive and healthy.  If you find someone who thinks he has arrived and does not need to grow or one who thinks he knows all the answers, I will show you someone who does not know all the questions.  It takes time and commitment to grow spiritually and we must be committed to make it happen.  For those reading this, I want to challenge you to make the commitment and decision to attend the Men’s Discipleship Class taught by our pastor, Chris Osborne, starting on Thursday, September 6, at 6:30 a.m. for 25 weeks.  It is an opportunity for you to keep growing in Christ and handle accurately the Word of Truth.  This incredible opportunity is not just for Central Men, but open to any man in the Brazos Valley who want to grow in Christ.  Your life and spiritual leadership may never be the same and I promise that your brain and heart will grow in Christ and God’s Word.
