John 1:14: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” Christmas is only three weeks away and a spiritual leader should look for opportunities and responsibilities to keep Christ in Christmas in his every walk of life, particularly in his own home and family. Christmas in America has now become more about money than the manger. The material focus starts now in October and begins to accelerate with Black Friday after Thanksgiving through the New Year’s sales. Gift giving is a very meaningful part of the Christmas celebration. Gifts to one another and to God remind us of His greater gift of His Own Son, Jesus Christ. We must never let the material gifts overwhelm the greatest Gift and to let money replace ministry in our own spiritual commitment to “Keep Christ in Christmas.”
In the time between now and Christmas, we should all focus on keeping “Christ in Christmas.” One of the best things that you can do is to lead your family during the Christmas meal to focus on what Christmas is all about. This may come before or after personal gifts are opened. Go around the dinner table and ask each individual to share what Christmas means to them. The Gospel is Good New that never grow old, so read the Luke account of Christ’s birth again. What gift should we give to Christ? He only wants one and that is the gift of our heart to Him. All the Christmas presents in the world mean nothing without the presence of Christ. This gift is the only one that is eternal and lasting. We read and hear, “Keep Christ in Christmas,” every year. Now is the time to really make it happen by how you lead in the next three weeks.
