LEADERS HAVE A CONTAGIOUS ATTITUDE

By Dean Gage

Philippians 2:5: “Have this attitude (mind) in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus.”  It is almost October and the month when many people get their flu shot.  This is to hopefully immunize them against the highly contagious flu bug.  The flu virus is very contagious from one person to another and we often say it is “catching.”  We try to avoid being around people when they are contagious.  There is a positive side to something being contagious such as a winning environment, a smile and a loving family and church.  As a spiritual leader, our attitudes should reflect a positive and contagious demeanor and Christian walk that we give to others.  We can immunize ourselves against a poor or negative attitude by having the attitude of Christ in our lives.  Let His attitude become our attitude.

It has been said that “Team spirit starts at the top.”  Since you are a spiritual leader, you set the attitudes and environment in you home and workplace.  Is your attitude worth catching?  It can be if we develop the same attitude which we see and obtain from Christ Jesus.  The reason this is so important to us is the very fact that our attitudes determine our behavior and actions.  It is what others see and hear in us.  Is it positive or negative?  Is it a winning or defeatist attitude?   With our personal team spirit starting with Jesus, we can lead with enthusiasm and confidence which is contagious to those whom we lead.  We are to live in the faith and spirit of Him and not be Mr. Gloom and Doom.  The blood of Jesus has not and never will loose its power to be contagious from one person to another.  There can be no attitude greater or more positive than personally knowing Jesus and being confident of our eternity.  That is permanent immunization.
