LEADERS DON’T WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW

By Dean Gage

Deuteronomy 1:29-30 “Then I said to you, Do not be in dread or afraid of them. The Lord your God who goes before you will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes.” I am writing this Challenge on Election Day before we know the outcome of the presidential election. It would be so normal and human for us to be concerned and worry about the outcome and whoever is elected from these two undesirable candidates. How could we, as Christians, be pleased with either candidate? We must not be afraid or worry and must know who is our real Leader and goes before us. Worry is assuming responsibility that God never intended us to have because He is in control and we are to trust him. He has always gone before his people to fight for them and we must be confident that He will take care of us even in difficult times.

Worry is our human nature and is the opposite of trust. The enemy wants to pull us down into a pity party and mental attitude of worry, defeat and despair. But, God wants us to look to him and trust him. We are all familiar with what we are told to do when worry creeps into our lives. And, we often forget to be obedient and to trust God. Proverbs 3: 5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” We may not fully understand why our choice of President is so bleak, other than a sad reflection of the spiritual and moral condition of our nation. However, it does mean that we should not worry and must trust in the Lord even more. He will make straight our personal and family paths if we remain obedient and let him assume leadership of our lives. Our real hope is in the world to come, not Election Day but Resurrection Day. This is the good news!
