LEADERS DISCERN THE TRUTH

By Dean Gage

Leaders Discern the Truth:  John 8:32 “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  These are the words directly from Jesus Himself.  We live in a world today that follows relativism and compromises truth and what is right and wrong.  We hear the statement, “Maybe what is right for you might not be right for me.”  What is black and white is blended to the color of gray.  But, the Bible still holds to the truth and absolutes and cannot lower its standards to accommodate the culture or man’s standards.  A Christian man and leader must follow our Scripture this week.

One semester when I was in Veterinary Medical School, I had 39 class and laboratory contact hours per week.  We started every Friday at 7:00 a.m. with a retroactive exam in microbiology.  These exams were always True and False and very tricky (or you can use the other word to define them).  Several of my classmates complained to the professor and made their opinions known.  The week after this encounter with the professor, the next exam was passed out with three potential answers for each question:  True, False or Maybe.  Needless to say, this stopped the complaining.  For the Spiritual leader, there is only one answer that is correct and that is the Truth of God’s Word.  False and Maybe are wrong and the Christian man must make his leadership decisions on God’s truth.  When we don’t, we face the same grade that my classmates did when they got the wrong answer.  It is not that hard.  Our Scripture this week provides the promise, “And you shall know the truth.”  Just like I had to study the microbiology textbook to get the right answers, we must study God’s Word to know the truth and apply it to the exams in life.
