Matthew 4:18: “And Jesus said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you’.” A real principle of strong leadership traces back to Jesus calling his disciples and His making leaders out of His followers. This should be the goal of each of us as we lead in every walk of life. It should really be evident in our homes, work and church life. Harry S. Firestone said, “The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership.” This is exactly the model of leadership of Jesus as the twelve disciples, except for Judas, became strong leaders by allowing Him to make them and by following His example. It is no different today and this principle of leadership is an often forgotten responsibility of the leader.
John Schnatter, founder and CEO of Papa John’s Pizza, stated it this way, “It’s my job to build the people who are going to build the company.” The principle was no different for Jesus and is no different for us today. Just as Jesus made His disciples to be Christian leaders, we have the same calling and responsibility today. We must make our children, people who work for and with us and younger church members into leaders. Our culture has not been good at this in recent years and this is one reason that our homes and nation are in such trouble today. We simply have not seen leadership passed from one generation to the next, especially starting in the home. Your family legacy and future depend on your commitment to make leaders of each generation. I pray that you will commit to, “It’s my job to build my family members in Christ who are going to build our family for generations to come.” It is one of the highest callings of leadership. We must first follow Christ and allow Him to make us so that we can become the leader He has called us to be. How are you doing?
