LEADERS COMMUNICATE THE WAY

By Dean Gage

Psalm 44:1 “O God, we have heard with our ears, our fathers have told us, what deeds you performed in their days.”  Yesterday was Father’s Day and this Challenge is targeted to your leadership and spiritual responsibilities to your children and grandchildren.  A father is probably and should be his child’s first glimpse of the character of God and Jesus.  Children need to be told and hear from their own father what God has done in their lives.  Most of all, they need to see it modeled in their father’s life.  This has a far greater impact than anything they can hear but be quick to share with your children what God has done or is doing in your life.  This is a part of mentoring and leading them in the ways of God.

In the daily devotional, Stand Firm, for June 2018, it was reported that the statistics are clear.  When a child is reached for Christ, the rest of the family follows 3.5% of the time.  When the mother is reached, the likelihood improves to 17%.  When the father is reached, the rest of the family follows suit some 93% of the time.  What glimpse of Jesus are you giving your children and grandchildren?  Many studies show that at least 85% of all people who accept Christ do so between the ages of 5 and 15 years.  Spend time with your children sharing what our verse this week describes.  Remember: “A child is not likely to find a Father in God, unless he finds something of God in his father.”  On this Father’s Day 2018, how are you doing and what are your children hearing with their ears?
