I Timothy 3: 4-5 “He must manage (lead) his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage (lead) his own household, how will he care for God’s church.” Our Scripture today reminds us how important and sacred a man’s responsibility and role as a husband, father and grandfather really are to his family. All that a man does outside his home becomes severely compromised if he fails to lead his own family correctly. Home and family are where a man’s true character and leadership are measured as a true leader and role model example. Home is where a man’s true leadership is most clearly visible. His wife, children and grandchildren know the real character of a man more than anyone else. Their spiritual and moral development depends on how they are led and mentored. As our Scripture reminds us, the home is the training and proving ground for leadership that qualifies a man for greater leadership roles outside the home.
The bottom line is rather simple: “Lead those in your home first and foremost and other opportunities will come your way as God provides.” Also, remember this: “As fathers go, so go future leaders.” Tonight in America, some 24 million children will go to bed without their biological father in the home. This would translate to 400 football stadiums filled with more than 60,000 people. This is not God’s plan for the family and a man. These statistics are more than just numbers. They are boys and girls with names like yours and mine. There is one more final message: “Lead your home well as a godly man and you will be blessed with the outcome and opportunities God will provide.”
