LEADERS APPLY “ASAP”

By Dean Gage

Psalm 50: 15 “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.”  We are all familiar with the acronym ASAP and have often received this command or given it to others.  We use it in all types of settings and life situations with the interpretation that it stands for “As Soon As Possible.”  While this is often appropriate and applicable in leadership, there is another definition of this acronym for the spiritual man or leader.  When we are facing a real trial, test, immediate decision or trouble, ASAP should stand for “Always Stop And Pray.”  There may not be time to have a lengthy prayer, but there is always time to stop and give a silent prayer.  Nehemiah is a prime example when he voiced an ASAP prayer when the king asked him what was troubling him.  Granted that Nehemiah was already prayed up in advance, he was shocked at the immediate question the king asked him and had to give an answer quickly.  He stopped and prayed before he answered the king and God honored him and his leadership.

Our Scripture this week of Psalm 50: 15 specifically instructs us in the day of trouble and decision to call upon the Lord and He will rescue us.  We are then to honor and glorify Him for being so responsive and immediate.  This is another example of a biblical principle found throughout the entire Word of God.  Where we see a command of God, it is followed by a promise.  Faithful obedience is rewarded in our lives when we follow His Word.  So, the leadership challenge this week is to “Always Stop And Pray.”
