LEADERS AND A FIRM FOUNDATION

By Dean Gage

Luke 6:48: “But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation.  When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell and the ruin of that house was great.”  Jesus shared his parable about a man hearing His Word and doing what He said to be like a man building his foundation on solid rock that would not be shaken or would fall down.  He ended this parable with our verse today describing what happens when a man does not build on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ himself.  Too many men today build on sand and shaky ground which cannot support their lives and families and ends in ruin.

Life is like a ladder we climb every day we live and will continue to do so until God calls us home.  We cannot simply sit down and never progress up the rungs of life’s ladder.  We also have to place our ladder on a solid and firm foundation.  It would also be a disaster if we placed our ladder against the wrong wall and after a lifetime of climbing discovered that we had wasted all the years of life God had given us.  We must evaluate the foundation and wall on which we place the ladder of our lives.  I recently had to climb on top of my house, so I took precautions to make certain the ladder was against the right wall of my house.  Most of all, I took great measures to make certain that the foot of the ladder was on a firm foundation.  My wife and I have an agreement that I do not climb a ladder unless she is there to watch me and to inspect the firm foundation.  I really think she is there to call 911 if I fall.  God has always protected me as I climb up to the roof but I have been careful to make certain of the foundation and have someone watching my climb.
