LEADER: HOW BIG IS YOUR GOD?

By Dean Gage

James 4:8 “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”   How big is your God or how big is God to you?  I am not a big social media guy and only participate some on Facebook.  Recently, I read a post on Facebook that got my attention and here it is:  A boy asked his Father, “Dad what is the size of God?”  The Father looked up at the sky and saw an airplane and asked his son, “What is the size of that plane in the sky?”  The boy replied that it was very small and that he could hardly see it.  Then, the father took the boy to an airport and as they approached a modern commercial jet, he asked the boy, “How big is this plane?”  The boy replied, “Wow Dad, it’s gigantic and huge.”  The father told him, “God’s size depends on how close or how far away you are to him.  The closer you are to him, the bigger and greater He will be to you and in your life.”

Our Scripture this week is a command and a promise that is illustrated in the narrative above.  A Christian leader is commanded to draw near to God and He promises to draw near to us.  When we get so far away from him, we can hardly see him at all like the plane in the sky.  As we watch a plane in the sky travel away from us, it will quickly fade away into the” wild blue yonder” or storm clouds.  The closer we draw near to God, He draws near to us and gets bigger and greater in our lives.  So, the personal question to us is how big is our God and how close are we to him?  If it seems that He has moved away and is not near to us, guess who moved?  He is ever present and promises to never leave or forsake us.  He will be as big to you as you will allow him to be.
