LEAD YOUR FAMILY THIS CHRISTMAS

By Dean Gage

Luke 2: 6-7 “And while Mary and Joseph were there, the time came for her to give birth.  And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.”  Luke 2: 21 “And at the end of eight days when he was circumcised, he was called JESUS, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.”  Men, one of your priority spiritual leadership responsibilities this Christmas should be to lead your family in a time to focus on the real meaning of Christmas and the gift God gave to us.  This will take time and planning on your part to determine a time for the family to look at the Biblical account of Jesus’ birth.  Find a time to read the historical account found in Luke 2 and to share with each other what Christmas really means.  You may find time after the Christmas meal or even on Christmas eve.

Lead in a family time of discussion and sharing what Christmas means and what it means to each one personally.  Ask the question, “What does Christmas mean to you?”  Let the responses be personal and relevant to the age of those assembled together.  Ask another question, “What is the most memorable Christmas in your life and why?”  Another question could be, “What is your favorite Christmas gift you have received?”  Follow this with, “What is the favorite Christmas gift you have given to someone?”  The last question should be, “What are you going to give Jesus this Christmas?” Then lead them back to the most memorable Christmas gift in the history of the world and the greatest gift ever given –Jesus Christ.  It is the only gift that keeps on giving for time eternal and is free to anyone who accepts it.  We should pray, “Dear Lord, thank you for the only Christmas gift that really matters, your son Jesus.”  Yes, keep Christ in Christmas and in every day of your life.
