Luke 2: 7 “And she (Mary) gave birth to her first-born son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” Christmas is a special time of the year in which a Christian man has unique opportunities to show spiritual leadership in his personal life, family and work. It is a busy time of the year that can often be parallel to our one verse of Scripture this week. “There was no room for them (Jesus and his family) in the inn.” This verse is so descriptive of our world today with fewer people and families making room for Jesus in their lives. We are to lead by making room for Jesus this Christmas and every day we live. It is not easy as we get caught up in the busy and materialistic world in which we live. At work or wherever we walk, we should say, “Merry Christmas,” not Happy Holidays. Happy Holidays may be politically correct in our culture, but it is not what Christmas is about. In your home make certain that the real story of Christmas is more important than Santa Claus, gifts and big meals. Make it a time to share what Jesus personally means to you and to each family member. The Christmas meal time is one of the best opportunities to make room for Jesus to take top priority.
This is the last Leadership Challenge for the year, but it could well be the most important. Make it an obedient priority to make room for Jesus in all that you do this Christmas and in the coming year. Keep the door open for Jesus to live in all the rooms of your heart. He stands at the door and knocks to come in and to have fellowship with us. Ask Him in and give Him the room He should have because of what He did on the cross for each of us. You cannot make room for a better guest and permanent resident – ever.
Until next year, have a Merry and Blessed Christmas.
