CHOICES IN LIFE

By Dean Gage

CHOICES IN LIFE:  Joshua 24:15: “Choose this day whom you will serve…….. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”   The bottom line in life is that the choices we make will determine who we become.  Our lives are a series of choices we make each and every day.  However, there are two things in life over which we have no choice or control.  I shared these recently in a Sunday message to our church family.  We have no choice of who our parents were and we have no choice in the generation or culture into which we were born and live.  The Bible tells us in Psalm 139 that God determined these before He even made us and gave us the days we are to live.  There is one issue in life over which we do have control and that is what we will do with Jesus Christ and how we will live for him.

This brings us to a real-life issue over which the choices above and in our Scripture this week become eternally important.  While we didn’t have any choice of who our parents were, we have a choice and responsibility for what kind of parents and grandparents our children and grandchildren will have.  In our culture today, the choice for you and your house has never been greater.  Our answer must be: “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”  We must make the choice that our children and grandchildren will see us living an example of a life following Jesus and God’s Word.  To them and anyone who sees us, we must be an example of “God with skin on.”  This is the greatest choice in life that we have and its spiritual significance may help determine the eternal fate of those around us.  “Choose this day whom you will serve.”
