BUILD A FIREWALL

By Dean Gage

BUILD A FIREWALL:  Psalm 119: 11: “I have stored up your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”   Your car or truck has a required firewall between the motor area and the passenger compartment.  This built-in firewall is to protect you, the passenger or passengers, from a fire that can start in the motor compartment and spread into your life space.  The fire can start with an accident or some motor breakdown.  Without this protection, you could be badly burned and injured or even face death in case of a spreading fire.  When we built the new Children’s Building at Central, we were required to carefully plan, design and build firewall protection from one building to the other.  This included fireproof doors, walls, and a sprinkler system to protect the human life inside.  Firewalls are required to protect life itself.

So, what does this mean to us?  It means that we are to build firewalls between enemy fires and our families and us.  One of the most effective firewalls is available and effective.  It is the Word of God which we are to store up in our hearts to prevent being burned by sin coming from the enemy.  Just like a fire can unexpectantly start in the motor areas of our car, the enemy frequently and unexpectantly starts a fire in front of us.  God’s Word is the greatest barrier of protection but we must put it in place.  You would never buy a new car without it having a firewall of protection.  Don’t live life without building a firewall of God’s Word into your heart for protection.  You never know when you will need it, but you will always need it as the enemy is primed to look at how he can penetrate into areas of your life.  We often take for granted the firewall in our car and don’t even think about it until the threat comes.  When we build God’s Word into our hearts, it becomes a permanent firewall that is there because we have placed it there.  We cannot take it for granted but must continually keep building it to be more available and protective.  This must be an intentional process that we cannot take for granted.
