Attitude & Spiritual Leadership

By Dean Gage

This week, we look again at attitude and how it relates to spiritual leadership and our homes. Our personal attitude reflects the presence or absence of our walking in God’s Spirit. It is reflected by the fruit of the Spirit in our lives and our interaction with others and with the Father.

Galatians 5:23: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law.”

By using the word, “fruit,” Paul was referring to the Christlike character produced in our lives by the Holy Spirit. We cannot generate these traits ourselves. They grow as the result of our letting the Spirit and the Word guide us in how we live, lead and interact with others. God often uses the people around us and whom we lead to check our attitude and walk in the Spirit.

After a long hard week, I heard one of my daughters ask my wife, “Mom, what’s wrong with Dad this morning; doesn’t he feel good?” The Holy Spirit kicked me hard as I knew that I was not walking in the Spirit as reflected in my attitude and subsequent behavior. I had to apologize and ask for forgiveness from the ones whom I loved the most and was accountable to lead. How are you walking and leading today?
