A Solid Foundation

By Dean Gage

This week, a geotechnical engineering company is in the Central parking lot taking deep core soil samples crucial to the foundation for the proposed new Children’s Building. Our existing building had to undergo a major foundation repair and rebuild several years ago due to problems in the foundation that made it shift and throw the entire building out of balance. Our ministries continued without difficulty because they were built on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ and God’s Word.

Like a building, our lives and spiritual leadership must be built on this same foundation with deep and strong anchors and piers into solid ground and rock. I Corinthians 3:11 “For no man can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” He is also the cornerstone from which the entire construction of a building or life must start. Ephesians 2:20 “Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets. Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone.” We live and lead in a world today in which too many lives are built on sinking sand and a defective foundation. But, this is not new to the history of mankind and the principle of the correct foundation is still the same. David wrote in Psalm 11:3 “If the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” He answered the question and culture in the same way God has always answered it. The righteous man must continue to place his trust and life on the solid rock and foundation of Jesus Christ and never be moved. Be encouraged that God will lead you and take care of you and your family when you are building on His foundation, even with the storms occurring around you.

Remember one other thing. If your personal and spiritual foundation becomes cracked or begins to shift, it can be repaired and rebuilt just our building foundation was several years ago. The decision is yours to make with God’s help.
